From Feature Films to Followers of Christ

After releasing two films within the last few years, First Capital Christian Church has witnessed the power of these stories to change lives and bring people to Christ. What began in their small Indiana town of about 3000 people has now reached millions of hearts around the world.

Their film “A Father’s Fight” was first released in prisons around Indiana and led to 35 inmate baptisms. Their most recent film, “I Can,” tells the story of a family in their own congregation and has reached over 17 million people globally. These two movies were paired with several calls to action which led to over 200 baptisms in Uganda and over 100 baptisms in the U.S., including two actors from the films.

First Capital Christian received $20,000 from the Kingdom Advancing Grant, which will help fund their next film project, a three-part initiative called A.C.T. for Harrison. The film centers on the challenges and experiences of a family whose son is on the autism spectrum.

The “A” is for Awareness—creating a feature film that follows a father and his autistic son as they travel across the country, based on the lives of a family in their community. Throughout the road trip, the characters learn more about God’s love, while viewers become aware of the stresses and difficulties that parents of autistic children and adults face every day. The goal is to distribute the film nationwide through theaters and streaming platforms. The team will also work with partners in Uganda to use the movie as part of a gospel revival all over Africa.

The second part of the initiative is “C” for Community—establishing an online connection community for the parents of autistic children and adults. First Capital Christian started their online ministry in 2016 as a way to get to know people and create community. Through the social network they’ve already created online, they will establish a forum of believers, non-believers, and people who are connected to the special needs community. This support system will include a monitored online platform for people to make decisions for Jesus, be discipled, and get connected to churches.

And the “T” represents Touch: they hope to touch the parents in Harrison County (later, all of Indiana) by providing opportunities for respite care, counseling, pastoral care, and special events. A portion of grant funds will go toward these efforts to support parents. This includes staffing their new sensory room every weekend to care for local families.

“We are this little metal building at the end of a dead-end street on the wrong end of town...God has given us this space and this avenue and he wants us to use it,” said Ed Plumier, executive pastor of First Capital Christian.
