A: A commercial auto policy provides property damage and bodily injury liability coverage and optional comprehensive and collision coverage. It is required to insure vehicles owned and registered under a ministry organization’s name. It extends liability coverage to your employees and volunteers when operating the ministry’s owned vehicles.
A: No, commercial auto coverage is only available as a separate policy.
A: If the missionary has a current U.S. driver license, has held it for at least three years, and is driving a ministry vehicle for a short time, then typically, yes. Ensure the vehicle that the missionary is allowed to use is classified appropriately under your policy because other conditions may apply.
A: Start by making a list of drivers who will be primary and occasional users of ministry vehicles. Complete a background check, including reviewing motor vehicle reports, for all potential drivers. You will submit information for the group of primary drivers. The information of your occasional drivers—those that drive less than 12 times per year—does not need to be submitted, but we still recommend completing a background check.
